Progress?

Hi it is me again! Unfortunately I am still not blogging or letter writing with any regularity, but I think I am closer to being back on my feet than I have been in quite some time. My husband and I continue to eat vegan/raw and we have both improved quite a bit. I am walking 15-20 miles a week, I have lost 30 pounds (not all of which I meant to lose... I thought I only needed to lose about 15 lbs. but I guess my body had different ideas), and my energy and overall health have improved greatly. Now I just need to get my groove back..
I look at my letter writing things and I just don't feel like I have anything to talk about... I stare at a blank page or write something and it sounds so stilted and contrived that I bunch it up and throw it away. I have writers block... actually it is a creative block. Every time I try to start a project, even a small one to try to resurrect my creative self it leaves me cold. Could the last year really have killed my ability to create, to write, to converse with my dear pen friends? Has that part of my life slipped away, never to return? I am beginning to fear that it has. I so much want to be myself again, to be full of ideas and wishing for more time to devote to my passion for letter writing, art and blogging, but I feel dead inside.
Has anyone else ever felt this way and recovered? What do you do for creative burnout and writers block? I would love to hear your thoughts.

  1. Hi dear Ellen!
    Lovely to hear of you!
I think it's totally normal to lose the passion for different things every now and then; at least it's normal for me.
I love to knit but haven't been able to start anything or continue with the unfinalized ones during the whole year, but about a month ago I again found my passion for this and now I have two knittings going on.
And also I have been very lazy with mail art now, though I always think I should do something new when I'm looking at my mail art blog which has got very few postings nowadays.
But I have also got interested in something new! I started a photo blog, Picture of the Day, and I'm really excited of that now! I try to blog a photo every day, a photo taken on that day or at least not more than one week ago, and I'm so happy when I find new things to be photographed! :) Take a look here www.pictopical.blogspot.fi
    Hugs!!

    1. Thank you Sirpa for your encouraging words! It is true I often have times where I lose interest in things that I have loved doing before...this time though it seems to have taken quite a while to come around again. I am still hoping to get my creative juices flowing again, I may have to start somewhere else,(for example maybe start on my other blog that is very relevant to my current situation), and then once I am back in the habit of being creative again, I can start doing a better job on my postal interests.
You are a wonderful photographer, I have been blessed with some of your photos and have enjoyed them very much! I will check out your new blog and comment there so you know I've visited. Hugs! Elle

    2. Thank you dear Elle!
I'm really happy to see you as a new follower of my new blog!
Please don't force yourself to do anything what you don't want to. Be patient and let the passion come when it wants. It may start with something very small and can also finally lead you to some totally new areas and ideas. :)

  2. Creative burnout?? Yikes! I think when your creative juices are ready to reemerge in the form of your favorite activities, they will. Maybe they just need some hibernation time. In the meantime, maybe you could try some other creative projects focused on something else just to keep that part of your brain interested and active?

    1. Thank you Joanna! I have begun to do just that. I have another blog that has to do with our homestead, Heart's Ease Cottage. I have been blogging there with some success, and now I can feel the creative cogs beginning to turn again. Thanks for your kind words!

  3. Hi Elle! It is so nice to "see" you. I have missed you. To answer your question...yes I have recovered from lack of passion. Take your time and when you start to feel the urge to create or write start small. I only answered 1 letter a week. After a while I was back at it..although my responses are not as quick as they used to be I am enjoying the process again.

    1. Hi Kimi!! I have missed you too! It is good to hear from you! Thanks for the advice. I am doing as you say starting small... note cards to be exact. I have gotten several out and am feeling a little better about myself. Hugs for now!

  4. I, too, have hit that wall Elle. Never imagined I be back, then personal pain took me out again. We're just relieved that you are well. Do what feels right. I, for one, will always check in from time to time, if only by mail.

    Be well.
